It's good to share: co-op-ing your kit PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 05 March 2010 15:30

Sometime Photo Pro contributor and all-round imaging legend, David Hobby, has posted an interesting blog about sharing kit with a group of local (trusted) photographers.

"Personally, I have been jonesing for a Phase One back on a medium format body. But I cannot rationalize the cost. Okay, let me rephrase that. I cannot rationalize the cost to my wife. I can rationalize anything to myself. At The Sun, we had a pool of gear that was available to be used when needed by the staffers. Just seems to me that there must be civilian versions of this. And I'll bet someone reading this site has done it."

If you're in a group of friendly professionals, maybe you could club together to share some kit? Definitely something to think about over the coming weekend. Have a good one...

Something for the weekend: BICBIT PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 26 February 2010 12:29

Off to the shop this weekend? Whether you're buying new clothes or new camera gear, there's a little mnemonic that can help you save money in the long run - BICBIT, or "Buy It Cheap, Buy It Twice." The least expensive option might save you money in the short term, but when you have to replace the cheaply/crappily-manufactured product very quickly, what looked like a great deal can turn out to bite you.

BlackStar Rising has a great piece on this exact topic which simply demonstrates why the cheapest option is not always the best. Read, inwardly digest, and have a great weekend!
